The Lost Songs
 of BROADWAY’S
‘Marilyn, An American Fable’

Songs from Composers Beth Lawrence and Norman Thalheimer

Writing music for this Broadway musical about Marilyn Monroe was a wild and wonderful experience!  ‘Marilyn, An American Fable’ ran at the Minskoff in 1983, and although the critics didn’t love it, audiences did.

During the writing of the show, a lot of the songs were modified to fit the ever-changing book.  Many times, arrangers would change the chords, cut bridges, or just generally re-arrange the whole song to accommodate the script.  I wanted to honor these songs by restoring them to their original chordal structures and arrangements, while also recording songs that were written for the show but never used; were in the show then taken out; or were in the show but altered.

My intention with this recording was to keep the songs very PURE - no big orchestrations.  And so, WHAT YOU WILL HEAR is SIMPLY this:

Beth Lawrence - Composer/Vocals

Norman Thalheimer - Composer/Piano

Nyle Steiner (inventor of EVI/EWI) - Sweetening/Evi

I hope you enjoy these songs from ‘Marilyn, An American Fable’
